Winkelspruit Squatter Camp

Today we visited a camp in Winkelspruit. There are about 22 white families living here and the conditions are less than ideal. We asked if we could hand out some clothing to the children. We where greeted by a lady whom they call Ouma. She looks after the camp families and she also has a Tuesday morning Prayer group. She called all the children and some of the moms that where there. The smiles on the faces of these kids gave me a lump in my throat. They are so shy and grateful. The camp is in ruins and the ablution block leaks water from the toilets, showers and drains. Yet the camp is very clean and one can see that these people no matter what keep the grounds and there little shacks neat.

The greatest need at this camp is food. These people are forced to pay high rent eg. R2500 for a stand a month as one mom told us. We are in need of monitory donations so that we can buy some food in bulk and redistribute it to the families. I will be posting a link soon so that donations can be made for this project. If you have anything that you can give it will be of such great help. This camp is in KZN near Amanzimtoti.
